“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
This verse of scripture is an “all-time classic” used to describe the concept of faith toward God for so many years. Without a doubt, it is
applicable to the concept of faith. However, rather than stopping at this verse of scripture, we want to challenge everyone to read the entire
chapter of Hebrews 11 to obtain a broader perspective concerning faith toward God.
Reading through the entire chapter, it is obvious to see that all patriarchs of faith, referenced in this chapter, heard the Word of God and acted
on it or regulated their lives based on what they heard. So, if we hear the Word of God and decide to practice its instructions, we would be operating
in faith toward God. But, how do we hear the Word of God? 2 Timothy 3:16 lets us know that all scripture is God-breathed, indicating that if we understand
God’s breath (intention or spirit behind) the scripture (letter of the bible) we can gain access to the Word of God. We want to emphasize the importance
of understanding the spirit behind the letter of the bible based on the instruction of 2 Corinthians 3:6, which states that the letter kills but the spirit
gives life. God wants to give us life, and He expects us to understand the spirit behind every verse of scripture. God expects to understand the reasoning
behind it and have revelation knowledge, revelation understanding, revelation wisdom and prophetic insight to apply such to our contemporary lives today.
God expects us to have complete understanding. This complete understanding will inject faith, confidence, in our hearts (Matthew 13:19, Luke 8:11-12).
But, some people might say: “When I read my bible, I don’t understand it.” Good question! We would like to refer such people to the experience of Moses in
Exodus 33:13 and Psalm 103:7. Based on these scriptures, we can see that Moses was taught the ways of the Lord because he asked for it. Additionally,
Psalm 25:9 states that only the humble or the meek will be taught the ways of the Lord. God is not a respecter of persons. If we ask to be taught the ways
of God with an attitude of meekness, we would be taught, as well. If we ask God to make us understand His ways (the spirit behind the letter) in the bible,
we will be taught. The bible will come alive to us when we read it, and faith will rise in our hearts. We will then be able to regulate our lives based on
a complete understanding of the ways of God, which is His Word.
We want to encourage you to start practicing these instructions today in every area of life – finances, healing, health, strength, righteousness and so on.
Ask God to teach you His ways with an attitude of meekness (like a child wanting to learn), read and study the bible, understand its intention and subsequently,
regulate your affairs based on the spirit behind the letter. When you do, you will be positioned to overcome everything that stands against God’s purpose for
your life (1 John 5:4, 2:15-17), and you would have earned yourself a spot in the annals of “Faith-Walkers” and “Faith-Warriors.” We discussed these concepts
in detail in “The Overcomer’s Secret". Orders may be placed at the
