“And these signs will follow those who believe … they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Spiritual energy can be transmitted via physical contact. The scriptures above indicate how this actually happens – when believers lay hands on the sick or when a “Truly lesser” establishes physical contact with the “Truly Greater” in faith. This energy is the fundamental particle behind creation and is responsible for the manifestation of blessings and miracles in the earth (Psalm 133, Genesis 1:1-2). On the contrary, however, the absence of this spiritual energy results in curses and chaos in the planet. This concept is described in Psalm 104:29, which records that death results when God hides his face, and based on Proverbs 16:15, we know that God’s face symbolizes the release of His life. Technically, the energy, of which we speak, is the life of God or Zoe or living water - a substance that flows - and is manifest, primarily, in two ways, namely:

Anointing within, which flows from God to a Recreated Human Spirit (RHS) through the conduit pipe of a right-standing relationship established by the blood of Jesus (Romans 5:20-21, Revelation 22:1-3, 1 John 2:27, John 1:4). This anointing teaches and trains us to be Godly. Anointing upon, which is a crown of life, given as a reward for overcoming tests and trials (James 1:12, Psalm 133). This anointing is a reward for being Godly.

This article focuses on the second manifestation of this spiritual energy – the anointing upon, and it is the key to understanding the concept of “Laying On” of Hands. From the perspective of the person having hands laid on him or her, such a person needs to identify a truly anointed agent to tap into the anointing or unction required to effect the manifestation of blessings in the realm of the natural. The woman with the issue of blood was a good example of this. This woman identified the presence of the burden-removing, yoke-destroying anointing of God on Jesus’ physical body and made every effort to touch the edge of Jesus’ garment in faith to establish a physical contact (Matthew 5:25-34). Based on this understanding, James also encourages the sick (the truly lesser), to call for elders (the truly greater) to pray and anoint them with oil – a form of physical contact to stimulate their faith – so that they can be healed. We can apply these lessons to receive God’s blessings in our generation, as well. We can receive our miracles by establishing a physical contact with a truly anointed agent.

This exercise of obedience will result in being issued a reward of the “anointing upon” that is needed to destroy the yokes of the devil (James 1:12, Acts 10:38). The more we obey the Word of God, the more anointed our bodies are and the greater the glory of God made manifest in our lives. If we lost the glory of God because of disobedience, it will take obeying God to get it back (Romans 3:23). Take up the challenge to anoint your body afresh, and set the world free of decay.
