Casting Cares on God

By Lan & Nita Olude

A man once said, “If I could only become a billionaire, then I wouldn’t have to worry as much in life…all of my problems would be over.” It is rather saddening that many of us in this generation still think like this man. What we need to realize, however, is that if we do not learn “how not to worry” before becoming billionaires, we will still worry and carry our cares even after we have become billionaires. Millionaires worry, billionaires worry and other people who are not currently operating at the million and billion dollar levels still worry. In fact, it is becoming increasingly popular in our generation to hear reports of the rich committing suicide because of depression, which has its base in worry and fear.

But, why do people worry? From our previous article God is the Source of Prosperity, we can deduce that people who do not acknowledge God as the source of their prosperity will be prone to worry and fear, if what they consider the source of their prosperity shakes and becomes unstable. The Bible records that everything in the world will be shaken, so that the only thing which cannot be shaken, which is the Kingdom of God, will remain (Hebrews 12:28).

So, if we decide to operate in honesty by acknowledging God as the source of our prosperity, and we know that our source is unshakeable, then we will be positioned to exercise our hearts in humility by casting our cares on the Lord and refusing to worry. 1 Peter 5:5-6 indicates that the exercise of casting our cares on the Lord is humility and will guarantee us access to the grace of God.

1 Peter 5:5-6 (NKJV)
“God… gives grace to the humble. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God…casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”

When situations of life present opportunities for us to worry, we need to humble ourselves and refuse to worry. We need to cast our cares on the Lord. We can do this because we have exercised our hearts in honesty by realizing that God is our source, and He is unshakeable. We can refuse to process thoughts of fear. We can decide to trust the unshakeable God, when everything else around us seems to be shaking. Let us now review how to exercise our trust (Faith) in God to overcome worry in the next article: Defeating Thorns.
