Matthew 16:22 (NIV)
“The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth
choke the word, making it unfruitful.”
This passage of scripture is an excerpt from the all-time Parable of the Sower, given by Jesus to provide a platform for understanding all
other parables. In this passage, we can see that worries of life can constitute thorns which can choke the Word of God. However, since we
have exercised our hearts in honesty and humility based on the instructions of previous articles, we are positioned to exercise faith in the
Word of God to defeat this syndrome of worry. So what does God have to say about it?
1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
Matthew 6:33-34 (NIV)
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow,
for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
We can exercise our faith in God based on these two scriptures and similar scriptures to defeat worry. Because God cares for us, we can choose to
cast our anxieties on Him. Rather than spending time worrying, we can choose to seek after the Kingdom of God, which is the dominion of Righteousness,
Peace and Joy in the Holy Ghost (Romans 14:17). When we meditate on these scriptures and similar scriptures, faith will rise in our hearts and push
worry out of our lives. We can trust that God is watching over these promises to fulfill them in our lives based on the evidence of Jeremiah 1:12.
We have exercised our hearts in honesty by recognizing that God is our source. This honesty positioned us to practice humility by deciding to cast our
cares on the Lord. This platform of humility has given us the understanding we need from these scriptures to propel us into believing that God is watching
over His promises to fulfill them in our lives. Please remember this sequence: honesty, humility and faith. However, if after reading these scriptures and
similar ones you still find it difficult to trust God, we will recommend that you check if you are operating in honesty and humility at this level. Please
feel free to refresh your memory by reviewing previous articles concerning operating in honesty and humility at this level, as a prerequisite to operating
in faith at this level.
