Proverbs 19:17 (NIV)
“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.”
With a background of honesty and humility toward our peers, we stand eligible to exercise faith in scriptures that promise us rewards for an exercise of
selflessness. In this verse of scripture, for example, we can see that when we are selfless, we will be rewarded by the Lord. We can trust God for a sure
reward of multiplied versions of kindness when we act in selfless humility toward our peers. A reward of kindness can produce what money and influence cannot
buy. We encourage our readers to trust God for this.
James 3:16 (NIV)
“For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.”
If we apply this scripture in a positive sense, we can see that selflessness will result in order and every good work. This may help resolve the disorder
and confusion we experience in thought, word and actions, sometimes. Several people in our generation lose their peace because of envy and jealousy, which
have a base in selfishness and pride. They sometimes hide under the cover of being competitive and ambitious. But, the root of this is the pride of selfishness,
and it is about time we defeat this pride in our lives. The Bible records in Proverbs 14:30 that envy is like decay in the bones.
Paul warns the Corinthians against this syndrome of envy and competition, as well. God encourages us to compete with standards--not necessarily with ourselves.
Scripture tells us that if we compete with ourselves, we will be unwise, selfish and envious of each other (2 Corinthians 10:12, 2 Corinthians 13:11, Matthew 5:48).
The consequence of selfishness will result in evil works and disorder, both in our lives and in our world. But, since we have made up our minds to operate in honesty
and humility toward our peers, we can claim the promise of peace, order and good works and a harvest of kindness in our lives. We want to encourage you to start
seizing every opportunity that presents itself to practice selflessness towards your peers so that you can inherit this blessing and reward from the Lord.
