Partakers of Abraham's Covenant

By Lan & Nita Olude

Galatians 3:14-16 (NKJV)
“…the blessing of Abraham… come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus... Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who is Christ.”

How many people will like to be a part of a covenant that offers the world as a possession? We are hoping you raised your hand and yelled out a “Yes” to this question. If you did, then congratulations! The offer is still open. All it takes is to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and grow your faith in Him. In His covenant to Abraham (Genesis 22:16-18), God said that He would bless Abraham, multiply his seed greatly and ensure that all the nations of the earth are blessed through Abraham’s seed. Paul later said through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that this seed refers to Christ Jesus and all who belong to Christ (Galatians 3:29).

Therefore, even though we were gentiles in the flesh, we are now heirs of the promise through Christ Jesus because we have been born again. We share inheritance together with Jesus Christ and we can enjoy the same blessings that Jesus Himself enjoys right now as he is seated at the right hand of the Father. What kind of blessings is Jesus experiencing right now?

The scriptures say Jesus is far exalted above principalities and powers (Philippians 2:5, Ephesians 1:20). This means together with Jesus Christ, we are seated in heavenly places far exalted above principalities and powers as well. Jesus in his current condition is not subject to sin and death (Romans 6:10-11). Therefore, we have been encouraged to see ourselves dead to sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus as well. Jesus in his current state is not subject to sickness, poverty, lack or any form of oppression (Isaiah 54:14). Therefore, we do not have to be subject to sickness, poverty, lack or any form of oppression as well. We can live in wholeness and enjoy the blessings of Abraham. Relevant Scriptures:

Genesis 22:16-18 (NIV)
“By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son— blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies. In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.”

Galatians 3:28-29 (NKJV)
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

Ephesians 1:20 (NIV)

Colossians 3:1 (NIV)

Philippians 2:5-11 (NIV)
“…Christ Jesus …Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
