Romans 5:19-21 (NIV)
“For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous… so that as sin reigned in death,
even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Being at peace with God and having access to His life is a concept that has eluded the human race since the fall in the Garden of Eden. Old Testament patriarchs
searched for this experience to be justified with God and gain access to His life, but never got it because the promise was not for their generation
(Hebrews 11:39-40). In the New Testament, however, through the sacrifice of Jesus, we who believe in Jesus have been justified, made at peace with God and have
access to His life. This condition is what we call righteousness or right-standing. We have been given access to the life of God through Jesus’ right-standing
relationship with the Father. This right-standing is superior to the righteousness Abraham or any other patriarch of the Old Testament received in their generation.
Their righteousness, although, made them temporarily right with God, did not give them access to God’s life to recreate their spirits and get them born again.
The right-standing we obtain through Jesus Christ gives us access to this very nature of God, known as Zoe or eternal life or living water. But, why do we need
access to this Zoe?
In Genesis 3:22, God indicated that the solution to man’s problems after the fall in the Garden of Eden is the life of God when He asked the angels to drive man
out of the Garden of Eden and guard the way to the tree of life. If Adam and Eve had immediately eaten from the tree of life after the fall, their problems of
fear, nakedness, anxiety, sin and death would have been done away with. However, this would have been unjust, and God might have had to restore Lucifer’s access
to the tree of life, as well. But since God is just, He had to restore man’s access to this life of God legally, by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the
price for man’s sins (John 3:16). This restoration of our access to the life of God is what righteousness or right-standing is all about. Jesus’ right-standing
is the channel or the umbilical cord between Jesus and a recreated human spirit which allows a flow of life or living water from God into the human spirit.
This life of God gives us the strength to resist sin and overcome every consequence of it. It is responsible for giving us the spiritual energy to behave like
God and resist the devil and all his works. So, if the devil
NEVER flees when you resist him:
1. Your spirit may not be connected to Jesus’ right-standing channel, and so does not have access to the life of God yet. Solution: Submit to the Lordship
of Jesus and get connected to His right-standing channel (James 4:7).

2. Your access to Jesus’ right-standing channel is blocked because of sin or willful disobedience to God.
Solution: Repent of that sin and exercise faith in the blood of Jesus to remove guilt (unrighteousness) from your spirit (1 John 1:9).
