Matthew 6:24 (NIV)
“No one CAN serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other.”
It is interesting to note that the word used in this verse of scripture is “CAN”. This indicates that no human being is capable of serving or being devoted
to two things simultaneously. We were created to be single-minded. We were designed to maintain devotion to a single course of events at a time. This truth
is consistent with the findings of our scientists, as well. They are discovering that no one is really able to multi-task. We can only be truly devoted to
a single course of events before switching over to another course of events. We were created to be single-minded, and we should start disabusing our minds
of the tendency of double-mindedness, doubts or unbelief. But, why should we disabuse our minds of the tendency of double-mindedness, doubts or unbelief?
In addition to realizing that we were created to be single-minded, we need to realize that double-mindedness, doubt or unbelief is evil. Hebrews 3:12 states
that we need to guard against an evil heart of unbelief or double-mindedness, which is evil. According to James 1:6-8, this evil of double-mindedness makes
us unstable in our conducts and prevents us from receiving God’s blessings. Unbelief, doubt or double-mindedness is evil. It rids the planet of the power of
God and blocks the manifestation of God’s blessings in the earth. James 1:6-8 compares a person who tolerates doubts in his or her mind, as the wave of the
sea which is being tossed to and from by the wind. The bible indicates that we cannot receive from God if we indulge in a mindset like this.
We must be single-minded with regards to the promises of God’s Word. Even if situations in the natural appear to contradict God’s Word, we must not tolerate
suggestions that challenge the authenticity of the Word of God to us. We need to settle in our minds that whether or not the realm of the natural aligns with
God’s promises, God’s Word still holds true. The evil in an attitude of unbelief can be seen as well, in the story of Jesus when He COULD NOT perform any
miracle in His hometown because the unbelief of the people (Mark 6:4-6). If an attitude of unbelief was potent enough to inhibit the flow of God’s power in
Jesus’ ministry, this attitude is strong enough to cripple our lives today as well.
We want to encourage you to begin to rid your mind of any contrary thought of unbelief today. Say “No” to such thoughts by replacing them with the truth of
God’s Word. The Word of God is the truth and the highest form of reality because it is not subject to change (John 17:17, Psalm 119:89). This highest form
of reality has the power to change the facts that you can see in the realm of the natural. Do not tolerate suggestions of evil from people, circumstances or
any other external agent. Let them know that your life is regulated by another form of reality, which is the Word of God. Without being rude, let them know
that your prosperity is on the line if you let go of your faith. Keep your mind single and focused on God’s promises and watch God fulfill His wonders in your life.
